Online Company Registration in Zimbabwe: Step-by-Step Guide

Starting a business in Zimbabwe is now easier and more efficient than ever, thanks to the government’s digital transformation of company registration services. Entrepreneurs can now complete the entire process online through the Companies and Intellectual Property Office of Zimbabwe (CIPAZ) portal—eliminating the need for lengthy queues and manual paperwork.

Whether you’re a local entrepreneur or a foreign investor, this guide will walk you through the updated steps for registering a company online in Zimbabwe, plus key tips to ensure a smooth and successful experience.

Why Register a Company Online in Zimbabwe?

Zimbabwe’s online company registration platform comes with several major benefits:

  • Convenience: Register your company anytime, anywhere.
  • Faster turnaround: Online applications are processed more quickly than manual ones.
  • Real-time tracking: You can monitor the status of your application as it progresses.
  • Digital document submission: No need for printed forms—everything is uploaded online.
  • Integrated services: Company registration is now connected with ZIMRA tax registration, NSSA, and other compliance systems.

Step-by-Step Process for Online Company Registration

Step 1: Create an Account on the CIPAZ Portal

Start by creating an account on the CIPAZ E Registry Portal. Provide personal details such as your full name, national ID or passport number, email address, and phone number.

This account allows you to access all company registration services, including name search, submission of incorporation documents, and certificate downloads.

Step 2: Conduct a Name Search and Reservation

Use the portal’s name search feature to check for the availability of your desired company name. Submit up to five name options in order of preference. Approved names are reserved for 30 days.

Pro tip: Choose unique, easy-to-remember names to increase the chances of approval and branding success.

Step 3: Prepare and Upload Required Documents

Once your name is approved, you’ll need to upload scanned copies of the required incorporation documents:

  • CR6 Form: Registered office address
  • CR14 Form: Details of directors and secretary
  • Memorandum & Articles of Association: Governing rules of your company
  • Identification documents: National ID or passport copies of directors/shareholders

All templates are downloadable on the portal and should be filled out, signed, and scanned before uploading.

Step 4: Submit the Application for Incorporation

On the CIPAZ dashboard, go to “Company Incorporation” and complete the online application. Information required includes:

  • Reserved company name
  • Company type (e.g., Private Limited, PBC, etc.)
  • Physical and postal addresses
  • Shareholding structure
  • Director and shareholder details

Upload your prepared documents and proceed to the next step.

Step 5: Pay the Registration Fees

Registration fees vary depending on the company type. Payments can be made through the portal using:

  • Mobile money (EcoCash, OneMoney)
  • Bank transfer or ZIPIT
  • Online debit/credit cards

Ensure your payment is processed successfully and keep a receipt for your records.

Step 6: Wait for Review and Approval

CIPAZ will review your application and documents. The process usually takes 3–7 working days, depending on volume.

If there are any issues (missing documents, errors, etc.), you’ll be notified via your account dashboard or email to correct and resubmit.

Step 7: Download Your Certificate of Incorporation

Once approved, your Certificate of Incorporation, CR6, and CR14 forms will be available to download from the portal. These documents legally confirm your business is registered in Zimbabwe.

Types of Companies You Can Register Online

Zimbabwe’s CIPAZ system allows registration of several company structures:

  • Private Limited Company (PLC): Ideal for most SMEs
  • Public Limited Company: For businesses that intend to trade publicly or raise capital through shares
  • Private Business Corporation (PBC): Simple structure for sole traders and small businesses
  • Non-Profit/NGOs: For charitable or public-benefit organizations

Each structure has different compliance and filing obligations, so choose what aligns with your business vision.

Common Issues to Avoid

  • Rejected Names: Avoid generic or similar names to existing businesses.
  • Document Errors: Make sure all forms are signed, scanned clearly, and in the correct format.
  • Payment Problems: Always confirm payment completion and save your transaction reference.

After Registration: What’s Next?

Once registered, take these essential steps to get your business up and running:

  • Register for Tax (ZIMRA): Apply for a Tax Clearance Certificate (ITF263) through the ZIMRA e-Services Portal.
  • Open a Company Bank Account: Present your incorporation documents and tax clearance to your bank.
  • Apply for Operating Licenses: Depending on your sector, apply for health, trading, or industry-specific licenses.
  • Register with NSSA: If you have employees, register with the National Social Security Authority for compliance.
  • Build Your Online Presence: Secure your domain name, create a website, and establish social media pages.
